Premier Andrew Furey says conversations are continuing about getting rid of the controversial fence that encompasses much of the St. John’s harbourfront.
Last summer Furey wrote the federal transport minister about taking down the fence, and was directed to the Port Authority.
Furey says he had conversations with the former minister of transportation about the issue as recently as last month.
He stressed that the fence does need to come down and that the area needs to be altered.
Furey states that there are other harbours with the same level of security and exports that don’t have such a fence, so a solution needs to be found so that people can enjoy the scenery. He says the former minister was receptive and had some ideas of his own.
Now that there is a new minister in the portfolio, the Premier says he will continue to press the issue.
