A man has died after an industrial accident at Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro in Holyrood shortly after 11:00 Thursday morning.
Hydro says nothing is more important to them than employee safety, and they are focused on supporting their teams right now.
“This is a sad day for our Hydro family,” the company said in a statement, noting that this is a day that they never want to face and one that will be with them for the rest of their lives.
RCMP say the man died on the way to hospital.
Reports to VOCM News indicate that the victim, a man, was a long-time employee of the Crown corporation and that he died after coming into contact with electricity in the switchyard area. He was a resident of the immediate area and in his 60’s.
RCMP, the Chief Medical Examiner and Occupational Health and Safety are investigating.

It’s believed that a long-time employee of the Crown corporation died at the scene after coming into contact with electricity in the switchyard area. He was a resident of the immediate area and in his 60’s.
It will be a few days before the generating plant is back at full staff.
RCMP and Occupational Health and Safety will be investigating.
