The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has confirmed that human remains found in a wooded area off Windemere Road in the Goulds are those of Joe Whelan.
Whelan, 31, went missing from that area late on the night of Aug. 1, shortly after leaving his parents’ home on Fourth Pond Road.
The police search was aided by the Rovers Search and Rescue and members of the public.
A $3,000 reward had also been offered up by the family for information that could help find Whelan.
The RNC and the medical examiner’s office have yet to confirm or release the cause of death.
They continue to ask for any outdoor video footage of activity in the Goulds-Petty Harbour area from Aug. 1-2.
Anyone with such video or other information should contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
