The Canadian Hurricane Centre has revised its seasonal forecast with more named and severe storms expected in the coming months.
Meteorologist Chris Fogarty says ocean temperatures are higher than usual, and being seen further north, increasing the probability of more storms that could reach naming status this season — up to the letters S or T.
“We’ve seen water temperatures around 6 or 7 degrees above normal, so as a hurricane moves up in warmer waters, there’s a likelihood that it may maintain its hurricane-like characteristics,” says Fogarty.
The hurricane season usually ramps up in September, something he expects will hold true once again this year.
