A local singer-songwriter is still reeling after getting the chance to open for Alanis Morissette at Churchill Park Music Festival.
Morissette and her team invited Paige Penney to kick off Friday night’s set after she sent them a demo late last month.
While she wasn’t getting her hopes up at meeting one of Canada’s biggest music icons, Penney got the opportunity to meet Morissette after playing to a packed house on Friday night.
Morissette gave Penney a hug and complimented her artistry. Star struck, the local artist thanked her for being a role model and paving the way for young Canadian musicians like herself.
Penney believes Morissette was a huge driving factor in forming a line-up led by all female and non-binary acts.
She says the seven-time Grammy award winning artist is a huge advocate for everybody. Penney says it’s great to see female and non-binary voices in the spotlight at such a large event.
