Acts of heroism and bravery have been honoured by St. John Ambulance with their annual life-saving awards.
A total of 13 people received the recognition during a ceremony at the historic Anglican Cathedral in downtown St. John’s.
Arthur Dominix received a gold award at the event for saving a woman and her family in Spaniard’s Bay in June.
Dominix says he was driving to work when he noticed plumes of smoke coming from a home.
He went inside the home, which was engulfed in smoke and flames, and got four people to safety.
He stayed with the family and helped keep them calm until first responders arrived.
Dominix says all he knew was that there were people inside that needed his help, and he had to try. The most important thing, he says is that the family is alive and is able to enjoy life.
