Premier Andrew Furey has once again written Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asking that he pause the recently imposed clean fuel regulations, and reverse increases to the carbon tax.
In the letter, penned on August 15th, Furey doubles down on many of the concerns that have been raised over the last number of months.
He says he remains concerned about the “detrimental and disproportionate impact” that the regulations are having, “and will increasingly have.”
According to Furey, the regulations, coupled with the carbon tax, are increasing the cost of gasoline, diesel, and other every day goods at a time of multi-decade high inflation.
The Premier asserts that the federal policies require modification to address the province’s unique situation.
Furey writes that his government shares the goal of addressing climate change and achieving a net zero economy.
However, he says they need to carefully consider how the inflation surge and climate policies are impacting the welfare of people, noting that an orderly energy transition “depends on it.”
