The RCMP says it’s committed to maintaining a permanent, full-time officer at their detachment on Fogo Island.

The town was told earlier this month that the permanent full-time officer would be downgraded to a temporary part-time position, and based out of Gander.

Now, the RCMP is committing to permanently staffing the police officer position on Fogo Island, which is set to become vacant next month. They say the new officer will reside on Fogo Island.

In the interim, the position will be filled full time by relief officers who will be based on the island, resulting in no change in resources for the detachment.
