Local businessman and philanthropist William Jacob Matthews, known affectionately as Bill, has passed away.
A Captain in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, Matthews owned and operated four dealerships, and was a known name and presence in the automotive industry.
He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home on Freshwater Road in St. John’s on Tuesday, with the funeral to be held at St. Francis of Assisi in Outer Cove on Wednesday.
