Five impaired drivers, all of whom had well over the legal limit in their system, were taken off the road by the RCMP over the course of two days last week.
The first incident happened at 2:30 Friday morning in Whitbourne. Police found a man near a damaged vehicle in the parking lot of a business, and determined that it had struck a guardrail. He was later found to be over twice the legal limit.
At the same time on Saturday, police in Bay Roberts pulled a driver over after he sideswiped another vehicle. Police say the 60-year-old man had three times the legal limit in his system.
Later Saturday morning around 11 a.m., a 57-year-old man was arrested in Happy Valley Goose Bay for blowing over twice the legal limit. At around 6 p.m. in Nain, a 55-year-old man was also arrested for impaired.
The final incident happened just after 10:00 p.m.. The RCMP received a report of someone driving the wrong way on the divided highway near the St. John’s Rod and Gun Club. That driver, a 21-year-old man, was pulled over and blew twice the legal limit.
All drivers had their licences suspended, and were released to appear later on charges of impaired driving.
