Energy Minister Andrew Parsons says it’s been a busy 20 months for the provincial government’s Renewable Energy Team.
Parsons provided an update today on the province’s call for bids on Crown lands for wind energy development.
Twenty-four bids from 19 companies were received before the deadline in March, with four companies receiving Wind Application Recommendation Letters once going through an extended process.
Those companies include World Energy GH2, EverWind NL, the Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation, and Toqlikuti’k Wind and Hydrogen, also known as ABO.
ABO Wind is proposing a three-phase wind energy project in the area of the Isthmus to produce and export hydrogen ammonia with Breya Renwable Fuels in Come By Chance.
EverWind is proposing a multi-phase wind energy project to produce and export hydrogen on the Burin Peninsula, while Exploits Valley Renewable Energy is proposing the development of a hydrogen production facility in Botwood. World Energy GH2 has a proposed project focused on the Port au Port Peninsula and Stephenville area.
Parsons says the proposed projects could have a significant economic impact on the province.
He says construction, operation and decommissioning of the four projects, the lifespans of which range from 35 to 40 years, are anticipated to generate $11.7-billion in revenue to the province.
