The snow crab season, delayed by a protracted dispute between the Association of Seafood Producers and the FFAW earlier this summer, wraps up today.
ASP executive director Jeff Loder told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that not all of the quota will have been landed this season when all is said and done.
But he says about 97 per cent of the overall quota will have been landed in what he calls a “chaotic” season.
That means some $20 million worth of raw material value paid to harvesters will be left in the water, translating into almost $40 million lost to the market due to delays.
Meanwhile, Loder offered his thanks to plant workers for all their hard work this season.
“I don’t think anyone thought that we could process this much crab this year,” he said.
