A young man charged with second-degree murder in the death of a woman at a downtown St. John’s rooming house has been granted bail — again.
Twenty-two-year-old David Quirke is accused of killing 42-year-old Rayna Dove on Dec. 27th, 2021 at the residence on Cookstown Road.
He was granted bail last fall but soon after turned himself in when he couldn’t meet a condition around where he would live while awaiting trial by judge and jury next March.
In Supreme Court today, Quirke’s lawyer Mark Gruchy presented a new plan that would see his client stay with grandparents on the Burin Peninsula, which was accepted by the court.
Substantial funds from family members have also been offered as sureties that could be lost if Quirke breaks any of his numerous, strict release conditions.
He must also abide by a curfew and not consume alcohol or drugs.
