The Anglican bishop has requested that St. Michael and All Angels church and parish on Kiwanis Drive in St. John’s be disestablished.
The decision comes following a special congregational meeting in July, during which the “challenging financial realities of the Parish” were discussed.
The decision was made that there was no option for the parish to continue within the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador.
The parish has seen many changes in recent years, having moved from St. Clare Avenue to the Carnell’s Chapel and finally into the new church in Kenmount Terrace.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Bishop Samuel Rose stated St. Michael and All Angels has profoundly impacted his life and ministry and he has “many happy memories of the faithful people” of the parish.
He also offered his thanks to Fr. Jonathan Rowe for his “tremendous grace and dignity throughout this challenging process.”
