The provincial government has installed new highway signs across Newfoundland and Labrador, aiming to remind motorists of the considerable dangers of distracted driving.
Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of collisions, resulting in injury and death, on Canada’s roads and highways, with leading causes including the use of a cell phone, eating and drinking, personal grooming, and adjusting the radio.
The maximum fine for driving without due care and attention is $1,300, while maximum penalties for driving without care and attention causing bodily harm or death is imprisonment for up to two years, suspension of a driver’s license for five years, and a $26,000 fine.
