An update is coming today in Labrador on medical transportation assistance.
Labrador West MHA Jordan Brown previously raised concerns about the province’s Medical Transportation Program, asking that government conduct a review to ensure that it is up-to-date and adequate to meet the needs of those who must travel long distances for health care.
Brown indicated that the program only covers the airfare for one trip, and patients are left to carry the cost of food and accommodations when travelling to the island for medical appointments and procedures.
Premier Andrew Furey will be joined by Labrador Affairs Minister Lisa Dempster and Senior Vice-President of Public Affairs with PAL Airlines, Joseph Galimberti, this afternoon Labrador West Health Centre in Lab City.
VOCM News will have more information as it becomes available.
