A commemorative service is planned in Gander tomorrow to mark the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the US now known as 9/11.
Gander’s role in the days following the attacks is well known, and has been celebrated with the Broadway musical Come From Away.
The people of Gander and surrounding area helped thousands of so-called “Plane People” who found themselves lost in transit when US airspace shut down, stranding them far from their destination.
While Gander wasn’t the only community in the province that took the travelers in, it was the community that caught the world’s attention because of the sheer number of people who suddenly needed help, food and shelter.
Tomorrow’s commemorative service is scheduled for 11:00 tomorrow morning at Evangel Community Church on Magee Road.
