Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, an occasion being marked with a call to action by the Nunatsiavut Government.
The Nunatsiavut Government says today is an opportunity for everyone to come together and show support, promote understanding, and to raise awareness of suicide prevention activities and initiatives.
This year’s theme is Creating Hope Through Action. They say hope can be created through a variety of ways such as listening to each other, offering support, sharing stories, accessing resources, celebrating cultures, and connecting with the land.
The Nunatsiavut Government is encouraging beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement to come together, support each other, raise awareness and understanding, and to work to improve the mental wellness of everyone.
They say they provide many prevention, intervention, and post-intervention programs, and are working with other stakeholders to address the issue.
