A man who once demanded that King Charles preside over his murder trial, won’t be going to trial after all.
Forty-year-old Dwayne Ginn was charged with second-degree murder after the death of 41-year-old Mark Hamlyn on June 14, 2022. But in Supreme Court this week, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Hamlyn died of blood loss from a stab wound to the groin during a fight over Ginn’s late and loud behaviour. It happened after midnight outside the boarding house where they were living on Old Bay Bulls Road in Kilbride.
Ginn was arrested shortly after and charged with second-degree murder.
He’s made no secret of mental health issues, citing lack of treatment for PTSD during an outburst in court in February. That’s when he demanded the King hear his case, called the court a “sh*t-show”, and denounced his Canadian citizenship.
But he passed a mental fitness test and the case was set for trial in late November, until this week.
Ginn is now due back in court on December 7 for the sentencing phase.
