American Airlines Pilot Tim Tadlock performed his final flight last week, and VOCM provided the soundtrack to the journey.
Tadlock, who began his career as a pilot 40 years ago in the navy before joining American airlines in 1992, had a storied career flying both internationally and nationally.
Displaced to New York for almost five years after 9/11, it was on the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy that Tadlock embarked on his final flight, he tells VOCM.
That flight, captaining American Airline Flight 717 over Newfoundland, allowed him to listen to VOCM while cruising across the skies one last time.
FAA mandates require pilots to hang up their wings once they reach their 65th birthday, a bittersweet moment for Tadlock, who shares he will miss his colleagues who have shared his aviation journey with him.
He shared that he’ll miss the people he worked with, but won’t miss the security, crowded airports, and frequent weather woes.
Tadlock shared that he hopes to visit the island now that he’s retired, joking that people would be surprised at the amount of pilots who tune in to VOCM as they navigate the clouds.
He explains he’s flown over the island so many times and has always wanted to visit, and may finally do just that.
Wishing @AmericanAir Captain Tim Tadlock a happy retirement! His last flight was yesterday…and for the past several decades he would tune into @590VOCM while flying over Newfoundland. He joins me on VOCM in a few min… pic.twitter.com/zX85Sog1GZ
