The official opposition is raising the alarm about the condition of the province’s roads and highways.
Specifically, PC transportation and infrastructure critic Loyola O’Driscoll points to issues with potholes and brush cutting.
He says it is mid-September and many routes have not had potholes filled and brush cut back.
O’Driscoll says residents are being put in a dangerous situation, especially with moose hunting season pushing animals towards roadways.
He notes that the province does not have a centralized road maintenance database, despite it being recommended by the Auditor General in 2017.
Meanwhile, MHA Pleamon Forsey is raising similar concerns about the condition of roads in his district.
He says another full construction season has almost passed a no work has been done on the Botwood Highway (route 350) or Fortune Harbour Road (route 352).
Forsey says he has been “inundated” with calls from residents concerned about safety in those areas.
