The Mayor of St. Mary’s says the local fish plant has proven to be a success story for the region.
Residents of St. Mary’s Bay fought hard to have a crab licence restored, a campaign which succeeded in May of 2022.
Mayor Steve Ryan says the plant employed two full shifts this season, and all workers qualified for their EI.
He says they’ve got houses being built in the region. “We even have a person doing up an apartment building,” he remarks. As for the economic spin-offs; “it’s just unreal, one of the busiest years that we’ve had.”
