Workplace NL wants employers across the province to understand the impact of repetitive strain injuries.
Musculoskeletal Injuries account for 69 per cent of lost-time injury claims, amounting to $109 million in annual claim costs.
A musculokeletal injury is one that affects the muscles, tendons, joint, cartilage or spinal discs, usually from repetitive motions or specific workplace conditions, and are made worse by those same work conditions.
CEO Anne Martin says such injuries can be caused by repetitive movements including lifting or bending, and are prevalent in many fields including agriculture, manufacturing and health care.
She says soft tissue injuries impact the lives of many workers across the province, regardless of status or profession.
WorkplaceNL hopes businesses and organizations province-wide will educate their workers and increase awareness on how to limit injury in the workplace.
