RCMP say charges are pending against a 13-year-old child in connection with a possible impaired dirt-biking incident on the Conception Bay Highway near Bay Roberts last week.

Police say a patrol car was driving on Route 70 when a young person on a dirt bike pulled up next to the car, and sped off. Police attempted to pull the bike over but abandoned pursuit in the interest of public safety.

The boy was found a short time later on L.T. Stick Drive after losing control of the bike. He was taken to hospital for treatment were blood samples were collected. Officers are awaiting the results to determine if impaired driving charges are appropriate.

Charges of dangerous driving and flight from police are pending.
