Health Minister Tom Osborne has joined the call for Ottawa to reconsider its carbon pricing program.
Osborne says everyone agrees that action must be taken to address climate change, but he questions the implementation of a carbon tax in achieving that goal.
Instead of curbing carbon consumption, the tax is exacerbating the impact of rising inflation. he says.
It has increased the cost of everything for everybody says Osborne. “Let’s revisit it and maybe look at it at a later time when the cost of everything, which has increased because of COVID, goes back to a more normal state.”
He says if the federal government is serious about addressing the social determinants of health then taking action to address rising inflation should be a priority.
