An announcement is coming soon on the province’s continuous glucose monitoring program.
The so-called sugar tax raised about $11 million in revenue for the provincial government in the first year of its implementation. That money is being used to fund programs like the continuous glucose monitoring pilot, allowing diabetics with 24/7 access to their blood sugar levels through their smart devices.
It’s been called a “game changer” for many diabetics.
Health Minister Tom Osborne says an update on an extension of the pilot is coming in the very near future.
He says the pilot was introduced for a certain segment of the population in last year’s budget, and they’re looking at expansion of the program “through the funding that’s been provided.”
