Premier Andrew Furey is assuring that government is working on issues related to housing while a so-called “tent city” has been set up across from Confederation Building.
People who say they have nowhere else to turn have pitched their tents across from the building in an attempt to bring attention to the homelessness issue in the province.
Furey says government is taking the issue seriously, pointing to 750 affordable housing units announced earlier this year, but does admit more is needed.
He knows it is frustrating to hear those announcements and not see the results right away, but government is committed to the issue. Furey says that an announcement is coming regarding the province’s housing strategy within the next week.
