Hockey Canada is reminding all participants of their new dressing room policy ahead of the new season.
The policy applies to all minor hockey teams sanctioned by the organization and aims to make the dressing room a safe, inclusive and equitable space.
Participants will now be required to follow a minimum attire rule, which says that people should arrive to the rink wearing a base layer such as shorts and a t-shirt, compression shorts and shirt or sports bra. Those not wearing a base layer are asked to change into one in a bathroom or unused dressing room.
To ensure privacy in showers where there are no private stalls, athletes are now asked to bring swim wear or some form of minimum attire.
Two trained and screened adults are required to be present while players are in the dressing room. If there are not two adults present in the room, then there should be two adults immediately outside the room with the door propped open to ensure the environment is free of discrimination and harassment.
Violence and hazing of any kind is prohibited, and if needed, a victim can make a complaint to Hockey Canada’s Independent Third Party.
No photos, video or voice recordings are permitted in the dressing room and cell phones should only be used in the dressing rooms to control music.
