NAPE is frustrated with continued problems at HMP that the union says amounts to an unsafe workplace.
A corrections officer was injured after being grabbed by an inmate yesterday afternoon, and virtual visitation has been set up, and some staff moved after the visitor room had to be shut down due to the discovery of black mould.
NAPE President Jerry Earle says he’s hearing unconfirmed reports about what remediation crews are finding in the walls of the portable style add-on.
He says he’s hearing that not only are rodents being found, but dead birds “by the bagsful.” He cautions that he’s not sure how accurate that is, but it’s another indicator of how bad the situation is at HMP.
Earle says the deteriorating situation at HMP needs to be addressed, and he’s fearful things will only get worse if a new prison is not prioritized by government.
