Parents in Paradise are rallying for a high school in the fast-growing community, but enrollment at Mount Pearl Senior High, which most Paradise students currently attend, is down.
The English School District says current enrollment at Mount Pearl Senior High is 685—with 495 of those students bused in from Paradise.
Mount Pearl Senior High has held more than 900 students in the past according to the school board, with a peak of 944 in the 2018-19 school year.
The English School District says it typically reviews school systems based on a broad geographical location, using the Baragar software tool to help with analyzing statistical information, in their planning.
The Holy Spirit High and Mount Pearl Senior High School feeder systems last underwent a review in the 2018-19 school year. It recommended the opening of an intermediate school in Paradise, and Mount Pearl Senior High moving to a 10 to 12 facility.
