Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department are inviting the public out for open houses at a number of fire stations in the metro region today.
It’s all part of Fire Prevention Week activities which kick off today.
The West End, Mount Pearl and Paradise fire stations will be open to the public from 2:00 to 4:00 today, with various types of firefighting equipment on display.
Meanwhile, display booths will be set up at the Avalon Mall throughout the week, while firefighters will also pay visits to local schools to talk to students about fire safety and the importance of fire drills.
Students in grades 4 to 6 are also encouraged to enter the Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest for a chance to be named Fire Chief for a Day.
