The MHA for Topsail-Paradise acknowledges that there’s always an ebb and flow when it comes to school enrollment, and he believes the need for a high school in Paradise is “a definite.”
Paul Dinn was responding to numbers released by the English School District which show that enrollment at Mount Pearl Senior High is 685 – well below the peak of 944 students in the 2018-19 school year. Close to 500 of those students are bused in from Paradise.
Dinn says that doesn’t deter him from the need for a high school for the community – which has one of the fastest-growing populations in the province.
“To make decisions based on a one year ebb and flow, makes no sense,” says Dinn.
Another 111 home subdivision was recently announced for Paradise. Dinn says a high school helps to foster greater community spirit, and is much-needed.
