The provincial government is setting up virtual recruitment efforts in India due to the continued diplomatic rift between that country and Canada.
India stopped issuing visas to Canadian citizens and last week, India’s Minister of External Affairs accused Canada of failing to deal with separatist extremism and giving “operating space” to terrorists.
That follows Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s comments in Parliament a week earlier indicating that the Canadian government had “credible allegations” that India was behind the assassination of a Sikh activist in Canada.
India has denied the allegations.
This province has a team on the ground in Bengaluru to recruit nursing students to Newfoundland and Labrador. Health Minister Tom Osborne says the team is still in India, but they’ll be moving their recruitment efforts to a virtual format.
