The city of St. John’s says legislative changes are needed to accommodate and regulate ride-sharing services.
The city is governed by the City of St. John’s Act, a piece of provincial legislation. Mayor Danny Breen says the legislation is out of date and requires updating to allow for ride sharing services like Uber.
He says they’re working with the province on what legislative and regulatory changes need to be made.
They’re also working with Hospitality NL and the St. John’s Board of Trade to find the best way to go about introducing ride sharing services in the capital city.
