The NDP is calling on government to acknowledge that the province’s housing crisis is getting worse.
NDP Leader Jim Dinn was referencing recent figures released by government that show that rental rates in the province rose 8.4 per cent year-over-year in August.
Newfoundland and Labrador was second only to Nova Scotia in the highest rental rate increase over August of last year according to the latest available Consumer Price Index stats.
Dinn says his party warned government that seniors and others are being hit with exorbitant rent increases, but they were dismissed.
He believes there doesn’t seem to be an appetite to address the issue.
