The City of St. John’s is purchasing eight new hybrid buses to add to the Metrobus fleet in an environmentally-friendly way to expand services as ridership reaches historic highs.

In the meantime, Mayor Danny Breen says a comprehensive study on electrification of the city’s Metrobus fleet is well underway.

He says they’re looking a number of issues around that including range, how many buses would be needed, maintenance, and possible changes to physical structures to accommodate the buses which are higher on top.

He says the location and number of needed charging stations is also something being looked at in the report.
