Parts of the island are in for a soaking. Environment Canada has special weather statements out for many areas, including metro.
A system approaching from the south will bring heavy rain and high winds to the eastern half of the island starting overnight. The southern Avalon and Burin Peninsula will see the highest amounts of rainfall—up to 60 mm—with metro, Clarenville and the interior in for 20 mm or so.
The actual weather forecast provides for a much tamer system, but the potential is there for the extreme totals as well.
Winds are not expected to hit triple digits.
The west coast, southwest coast, Northern Peninsula and Labrador will sit this one out.
