The new search and rescue station in Sheshatshiu has been officially named after Isaiah Andrew who passed away this summer. He was just 26.
His friend and one of the founding forces behind getting search and rescue established in Sheshatshiu, Innu Nation Search and Rescue liaison Jean Paul Penashue says yesterday’s ceremony was emotional.
Penashue says the new building will make a big difference for search and rescue in the region.
He says having all their equipment in one spot will mean a faster response time. He says they had a lot of equipment, but nowhere to store it. In the past their equipment was literally spread out through the community, in people’s trailers and sheds.
