If a provincial election is in the offing, the man who would call it isn’t tipping his hand—at all.
Premier Andrew Furey was asked directly this morning if an election will be called in 2023.
His answer was vague and ultimately didn’t answer the question.
“Look, it’s great to see such enthusiasm for the democratic process,” he said. Asked whether that was a yes or no, Furey said: “The PCs just came out of their leadership and I’m sure they’re hungry for an election and we’ll evaluate everything as we move forward. I’m fully committed to working for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and dealing with the problems they have on a day-to-day basis.”
Election speculation has been ramping up with the recent placement of election-style ads on various platforms.
The election talk also comes at a time when support for the federal Liberals is waning, and a recent poll showed a dead heat between the PCs and Liberals in this province.
