The provincial government says options will be made available for members of the ‘tent city’ to retrieve their equipment that was taken to RNC headquarters.
Police were on hand yesterday to retrieve tents and other items that had been abandoned during a wind and rain storm Monday night.
The Constabulary says it’s an issue of public safety as the items would pose a risk to drivers on Prince Phillip Drive, noting that all items can be retrieved at the police detachment.
PC leader Tony Wakeham and NDP leader Jim Dinn have been critical of government’s response to those living in the tents.
Dinn takes exception to people having to travel downtown to get their equipment.
Dinn says many of them can’t afford taxis and walk everywhere they go. He calls such an ask “tone deaf” and “callous.”
Justice and Public Safety Minister John Hogan says arrangements can be made through the Department of Children, Seniors, and Social Development for those without transportation to get the RNC HQ to get their belongings.
