A new festival is popping up in the capital city focused on the art of sketch comedy.
NL Sketch Fest is preparing for its inaugural festival, set for April 2024. The festival looks to bring together sketch groups and artists from around the province to celebrate both the current industry, and the history of the art form.
Andrew Tremblett, who is with NL Sketch Fest, says sketch comedy is an art form that Newfoundland and Labrador has really taken to over its history.
He says the festival will honour those that came before them like CODCO, Cat Fud and Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers, while showcasing emerging talents.
A kickoff celebration featuring acts like Halfhandsome, St. John’s Improv and Bicycle Jousting is taking place at the Benevolent Irish Society 7:00 p.m. this Thursday.
