Auditor General Denise Hanrahan has delivered her audit report on spending at Memorial University to government.
The province requested a full and comprehensive review of operations at MUN back in April of 2022 amid rising concerns about spending at the university.
The AG’s report will help to inform final amendments to the Memorial University Act.
Changes to the Auditor General Act introduced in 2021 allowed the AG to access information and audit the use of government funds at Memorial.
The province wants Memorial to move away from its reliance on government grants for general operating revenue. As of last year, Memorial was the most heavily-subsidized university in the country at 76.2 per cent compared to the national average of 44.8 per cent.
