The leader of the Opposition is wasting no time coming down hard on government for major discrepancies in the numbers of new housing builds.
Tony Wakeham is expressing what he calls extreme frustration, displeasure and total shock on behalf of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador when it comes to misleading numbers around new housing options.
Wakeham was responding to a CBC News report that says Premier Andrew Furey and the Liberal government tout more than 750 new public housing options advanced over the last two years, when really, there are only 11 ready to be lived in.
Wakeham says the people of Newfoundland and Labrador deserve better and simply making announcements for the sake of making announcement is not good enough.
He wants to see the government explain to the people how such a discrepancy could happen.
According to the new PC Leader, there are some 2,800 people in the province on a waitlist for affordable housing. Wakeham says those are real people, and the focus should be on people, and not politics.
