The federal and provincial governments are investing a total of $2 million in funding for Newfoundland and Labrador’s burgeoning film industry.
The formal announcement was made this afternoon at The Rooms in St. John’s.
It’s part of federal funding for the entire Atlantic region.
Federal minister Gudie Hutchings was joined by St. John’s East MP Joanne Thompson and provincial minister Steve Crocker, as well as representatives with the Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Co-operative Limited (NIFCO) and PictureNL, formerly the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation.

Ottawa is contributing $1.5 million of the funding while the province is chipping in with $500,000.
The money is designed to assist with upgrades to enable the local industry grow, compete and reach new markets here and away.
