Tourism Minister Steve Crocker is off to Japan to participate in a Team Canada trade mission to promote the province’s creative industries and tourism opportunities.
Crocker is part of a provincial delegation that includes department officials and representatives of Miki Enterprises, a locally-based tour operator with a focus on the Japanese and Asian tourism market.
The trip is taking place as the Broadway Musical Come From Away is set to hit Tokyo in March.
Officials are expecting that Japanese interest in travel to Newfoundland and Labrador will increase as a result.
For years, Japanese tourists have flocked to PEI due to the popularity of Anne of Green Gables in Japan.
