The Mayor of Twillingate is worried about the economic impacts of the closure of the local Scotiabank branch in the community.
Unlike some of the other communities facing similar closures, Twillingate does have another financial institution, but Mayor Justin Blackler says for seniors, the closure is going to be tough.
Blackler told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that Twillingate will lose out when residents make the trek to Gander for banking services.
“That’s an hour drive” says Blackler. “When you go to Gander to do your banking, now you’re going to do your grocery shopping”, meaning that local business will feel the effects.
