Fish harvesters on the Port au Port Peninsula are concerned about potentially damaging impacts of World Energy GH2’s proposed wind-hydrogen project in the region.
A rally was held on the steps of Confederation Building on Friday, with area residents calling for greater measures to address environmental impacts.
Katie Power, Energy Industry Liasson with the FFAW, says she has been hearing concerns from harvesters in the area.
She states that the union has never been consulted by World Energy GH2 or any government agencies about the project.
She says there are numerous concerns raised in the company’s 4,000 page environmental assessment, including the impact of dredging on lobster fishing grounds, marine traffic, and substances being released into the water. She says they have never been given an opportunity to ask questions about their concerns.
