Demand at local food banks is increasing, so imagine the surprise of volunteers from the St. Teresa’s food bank when they collected three van loads of donations thanks to students of Waterford Valley High.
Austin Hawley of the St. Teresa’ Food Bank says two weeks ago they received a call from Emmett Cochran, a Grade 12 student at Waterford Valley High and hockey player with the Waterford Valley Warriors.
Hawley says Emmett told them the team was interested in a food drive in aid of the St. Teresa’s food bank and requested a list of desired items.
Hawley says volunteers were delighted when they received the donations Wednesday morning.
He says the three SUVs were full to bursting and there are so many groceries they hardly have any room in the pantry. “This young man is to be commended” says Howley, “and his full group…when we walked in we couldn’t believe the amount of groceries that were there.”
