Sex offender Dennis Murphy professed his innocence while being escorted into provincial court this morning.
The 63-year-old, characterized by police as a high-risk sex offender, was arrested again last week in connection with a report of sexual violence in downtown St. John’s, which saw a 31-year-old woman taken to hospital.

Murphy is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement and again failing to follow court orders.
Police issued a public warning four years ago advising Murphy had been freed after doing time for sexually assaulting young girls, that he was living in Paradise, and likely to attack again.

He’s since been accused of doing just that twice now—in 2020, and most recently last week.
Handcuffed with his ankles shackled, a smiling Murphy shuffled his way into court flanked by two sheriff’s officers this morning.

The brief appearance lasted long enough for an update on the evidence against him.
He was then returned to jail pending his next court date on December 21 to enter pleas to the latest charges.
