The Mayor of Whitbourne is looking for more detail on a new approach taken to health care for seniors.
The health minister this week announced the creation of a series of Centres for Excellence in Aging to be located in St. John’s and Corner Brook, with further program planning in central Newfoundland and Labrador.
Hilda Whelan is applauding the news, but says more needs to be done to meet the needs of seniors in the communities where they live.
She referenced the urgent care clinics government is developing across the province. If that is done, then more doctors and specially-trained health professionals will be needed to meet the need.
She says care needs to be provided in rural areas where seniors live. As people age, the work load will increase, so more doctors will be needed says Whalen.
